On 10th November 2019 we held our Annual General meeting at the wonderful Meeniyan Hall, favoured venue for many visiting musicians. Our acting chairperson Peter Wonfor welcomed visitors and presented the Annual Report describing the many activities the Co-op had been involved in during the year.
This included: Totally Renewable Phillip Island(TRPI), development of the Southern Gippsland Renewable Energy Roadmap, the launch of the “Old Energy New Energy” solar/battery project at the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi, no-interest loans from the Community Owned Renewable Energy (CORE) fund and installation of a 30kW solar system at the Phillip Island Early Learning Centre.
Changes to the Board: Dave Sutton, Moragh Mackay, and Susan Davies (all founding directors in 2009) have retired after devoting many years of effort towards the work of the co-operative. Graeme Watson regretfully announced his retirement due to other commitments. Remaining directors include: Sierra Dunton, Bruce Hydon(Treasurer), Max Richter and George Fairlie was re-elected to the board along with new board members Carmel Anderson, David Mawer and Neroli Raff. Guest Speakers: Our first guest speaker was Bhavani Rooks – co-ordinator of the TRPI initiative, a collection of people and groups with the shared goal of ‘working together to be carbon neutral by 2030’. Current partners are: Landcare, Phillip Island Nature Parks, Energy Innovation Co-operative, Bimbadeen, Westernport Water, Bass Coast Shire Council, Phillip Island Conservation Society, Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre, Plastic Free Phillip Island, Boomerang Bags. The Working Groups include: Carbon accounting, carbon farming, food & waste, transport, education, emissions, energy.
Our second guest speaker was Carmel Anderson – new board member who spoke on “Community-centred engagement for planning local renewable energy projects.” which provides the collaborative basis through which the community can work together to develop community-managed renewable and carbon neutral projects.
