EICo-op Chair Moragh Mackay outlined the multiple activities of the Energy Innovation Co-op over the last year including the installation of solar and batteries at the State Coal Mine Wonthaggi (build underway) Southern CORE Fund (3 new sites approved), the Totally ReNewable Phillip Island collaboration, the new website plus our other events and presentations across the region- all part of the Co-op’s “working together towards a zero emissions community”. The thirty-plus attendees at the Newhaven meeting greeted the report very enthusiastically.

Geelong Sustainability Co-ordinator Dan Cowdell was able to give a very exciting presentation on his group’s investment community energy project which is 156 kW at the Multicultural Aged Care centre in Geelong. This project gained its 20 investors within a week of launching, offering them a 5% return plus their capital returned over the 10 years of the term. After 10 years the Centre will be gifted the panels which should go on producing for a further 15 years. The EICo-op and Geelong Sustainability have both benefited from a project within Victorian Community Solar Alliance, and have now signed an MOU between them, to share information and experience as the EICo-op prepares for a similar type of project.
